Our whole family approach supports flourishing families and communities through child-centred learning and welcoming, inclusive spaces that are accessible by everyone.

YMCAs across Ireland work to support families and provide life enriching opportunities for young people, their families and communities through childcare centres, after schools provision and family support programmes.

Working with hundreds of families every year within our community based programmes and providing childcare spaces for over 500 children across local YMCAs.

Family Support

YMCA Family Support comes in many forms but is based on the understanding that healthy, stable families in whatever form they are found – sometimes need some extra support to give young people the best possible start in life.

Examples of family support are diverse and include Parents And Kids Together (PAKT) a community programme that supports the whole family through fun learning activities and opportunities for primary school age children, their parents and carers. From afterschool sports and activities to parent education and family events – PAKT promotes healthy families and strong communities.

PAKT is currently active in YMCA Carrickfergus, West Dublin and Cork Region.

Our family support also includes working directly with the parents, family members and statutory services for referrals, signposting and ongoing help, with YMCA Dublin currently providing family support alongside their childcare services.

Childcare

Childcare makes up an extensive part of the work of local YMCAs across the island. With excellent childcare centres in Dublin, North Down, Belfast, Londonderry and Larne providing high quality and affordable childcare in fun, safe and stimulating environments, that ensure the best possible start for children.

From creche and nursery facilities to daycare and after school provision, YMCAs are experienced providers of support for young people, families and communities with a holistic, wrap-around approach, with expertise in play based learning and additional needs support.

For many YMCAs, Childcare services provide a social enterprise income that supports its mission to deliver services to the wider community.
